Operating since 1968, Hofbräuhaus Melbourne bills itself as Australia’s only Hofbräuhaus and one of the oldest German beer halls outside Europe — a multi-level Bavarian institution on Market Lane in Chinatown. Downstairs restaurant and upstairs Bierhall serve hearty classics from family recipes: crispy pork knuckle, freshly crumbed schnitzels, Wurstplatten, pretzels, spätzle and sauerkraut, plus rotating monthly specials from the chef’s Bavaria trips (Kaiserschmarrn, Zwiebelrostbraten, Bier-infused plates). Imported Bavarian bier from independent family breweries anchors the bar program. Weekends bring live music in the restaurant and Bierhall (from 6:30pm Fri–Sat, from 6pm Sun per Seven Rooms); weekdays are relaxed dining without live band.
