About Us

Soi 38 is husband-and-wife owners Chavalit “Top” Piyaphanee and Phawinee “Tang” Suwankamnerd’s cult Thai street-food restaurant — named for Bangkok’s Soi 38 laneway — now accessed via Royal Lane in the 235 Bourke Street (Tivoli Arcade) building after relocating from the Wilson car-park site on McIlwraith Place in late 2024. Counter-order dining rooms with Bundit Puangthong murals, metal street-stall tables and a gas-equipped kitchen for the first time in the venue’s history. Lunch focuses on dry or soup Bangkok boat noodles; dinner adds moo kata barbecue, hotpot, som tum, larb, moo ping, crying-tiger beef, fried pork jowl, pad krapow and desserts including mango sticky rice and khanom thuai. Thai beers on tap, natural wines and house-infused gin cocktails at the bar. Walk-in only; lunch queues are common.
