About Us
Tsindos was a three-level family Greek taverna on Lonsdale Street in Melbourne CBD's Greek precinct — established in 1970 by Harry and Eleni Tsindos, opened at 197 Lonsdale in 1983, and run for decades by Neofytos (Freddy) Tsindos with son Harry Tsindos Jnr. The warm, laneway-adjacent dining room served traditional meze (secret-recipe melitzanosalata, tzatziki, saganaki), moussaka, grilled octopus, seafood and group banquets (~$70 per person in 2024 coverage), with live Greek music on weekend nights. Freddy Tsindos's Florentino and RACV Club background anchored the venue as a link to old Melbourne Hellenic Lonsdale Street. The building sold for about $8.1 million in 2019; Tsindos The Greeks Restaurant Pty Ltd entered creditors' voluntary liquidation with ASIC notice published 28 April 2025 (Greek Herald, Herald Sun). The family posted a final farewell on the official site blog; SevenRooms bookings and the main WordPress contact/home routes return errors (May 2026).
