Udon Izakaya Maedaya is a budget-friendly Japanese udon-and-izakaya on Bourke Street near Russell in Melbourne CBD — the casual successor to Melbourne's original Maedaya izakaya brand. Picture-menu udon bowls, donburi and izakaya small plates are served in a lively, pub-like room with Japanese-speaking staff; noodles are Kyushu-style (boiled longer for a softer chew) in clear dashi, with vegan broth on request.
